Maintaining a Balance of Trust
Trust is that one force that unifies people together, as we often put a considerable amount of effort to prove to someone that you’re a trustworthy individual. Or trust can be a force that separates people apart, as some people have no interest in talking to one another from a lack of trust.

So I’m here to explore this topic and wonder, when is it dangerous to accept too much or too little trust from different social groups? For example, Lennie in the book Of Mice and Men meets a man named Crooks that is separated from the rest of the town and ramble to Crooks about owning their own place,””You think it’s a lie,’ Lennie said. “But it ain’t no lie. Ever’ word’s the truth, an’ you can ast George’” (Steinbeck 70). How can Lennie be so easily influenced to tell a secret he swore not to tell? It’s similar to when I’m working on a group project with others and we all divide the work and I have to hope that I’m not placing too much trust on individuals that I’m doubtful of to get the work done. When you’re uncertain, you never know what might happen.

McKay in Our World Today
From Claude McKay’s poetry writing, a student today would visualize McKay as a man of
speaking a common, untold belief present within his community. In McKay’s poem titled “America”, McKay looks at two sides that contradict each other when forming his opinion of America. He first explains America as “she feeds me with bread of bitterness” (McKay 1), giving the reader the impression that African Americans were permitted to live in America, but doesn’t mean that they enjoyed the luxuries that others enjoy. Words like “her tiger’s tooth” and “bigness sweeps my being like a flood” (McKay 2-7) gives us this negative expression of America. However, statements such as “I gaze into the days ahead, / and see her might and granite wonders there” (McKay 9-10), informs us of his optimism for a brighter future. Now, if we were to look back on his aspirations, have we achieved them today?
